The establishment and consolidation of Rado

The listed company Rado belongs to the Swatch Group and was established under the name Schlup & Co. in 1917. The brothers Schlup initially produced only basic watch movements. In 1937, the factory is expanded by the subsidiary of Rado Watch Co. Ltd. From 1940 to 1957, watches by the Exacto brand were also sold. From 1958, the focus was only on Rado watches. The company succeeded at a real masterpiece with the model Diastar from 1962. It was the world's first scratchproof watch. In 1975, the headquarters moved to Lengnau and in 1983, membership in the SMH group followed. This merger resulted in the Swatch Group in 1998. Rado received a special award in 1995. The company was awarded the Innovation Award at the Technology Centre in Switzerland for the development of the Rado Concept 1. For the watch , a polycrystalline diamond was used for the first time. Other important milestones in the history of Rado watches are the Anatomy collection, the Rado Ceramica with a scratch-resistant case and ceramic bracelet, the DiaQueen made from ceramic, gold and diamonds, the V10K with a coating of high-tech diamonds and the limited edition Rado Ceramica, which was created by the British designer Jasper Morrison.

The Rado brand today

The current collections include the models Centrix, Sintra, Integral and Rado True. Rado is known for a sophisticated design coupled with high quality technology. The company has experienced the largest sales, in Japan, China, Southeast Asia, United States and European countries like Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The watches are sold in over 5900 stores in the world. The focus of the company's philosophy are the durable materials that Rado itself researches and develops. Many watches are made of lanthanum, polycrystalline diamond, ceramics and hard metals. In addition to the longevity, other important criteria are the skin compatibility, ease of use and comfortable wear.
