The Swiss watchmaker Omega was founded by the 23-year-old Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. Brandt focused on the production of precision pocket watches. After Louis Brandt died in 1879, his two sons, Cesar and Louis-Paul, took over the business. Under their direction, the workshop was expanded into a manufacture. Already in 1885, the factory won its first success. The caliber named Labrador worked with a daily adjusted deviation of only 30 seconds. A huge achievement back then. In 1892, the first watch with a minute repetition is introduced. Two years later, the 19-line caliber Omega was developed. In 1898, about 500 people were employed. In 1901, the manufacture developed special Omega watches for motorcycling. The timepieces were attached directly to the fuel tank. In 1909, Omega officially supplied the Gordon Bennett Air Race with precision watches. In 1917, a further development that went down in history was successful. Omega presented the first pocket watch for the visually impaired. In 1932, Omega was the official timekeeper of the Olympic games for the first time. During the first crossing of the Atlantic in 1934, an Omega chronograph was on board. In 1937, the first waterproof Omega watches were launched. Two watches made by Omega accompanied Ralph Laisted on his polar expedition in 1968. The manufacturer can call numerous patents and inventions its own. The company has passed on the love for the art of watchmaking from generation to generation. Over the years, Omega has been supported by many athletes and celebrities. Michael Schumacher, Michael Phelps, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney and Cindy Crawford acted as the faces for the company's advertising. It it also worth knowing that the Omega Speedmaster Professional model has accompanied the Apollo 11 mission, and was the first watch worn on the moon. Today, the Omega brand belongs to the Swatch Group.
The Omega watches are available for both women and men. Currently, one can choose between the collections De Ville, Speedmaster, Constellation and Seamaster. Additionally, special collections such as the Olympic Collection London 2012 are offered.
