The letters IWC stand for International Watch Company – the Swiss watch manufacturers for exclusive and precise watches. The IWC portfolio includes pocket watches as well as wristwatches, and the company's products are to be found in the upmarket segment. However, IWC was not founded in Switzerland but in the USA in the year 1868. In spite of this the company decided at the time to have its watches manufactured in Switzerland and to rely on the skills of watchmakers there. To the present day Switzerland is the world's major location for the manufacture of high-quality watches, clocks and their components. The International Watch Company is now a public limited company with its headquarters in Schaffhausen.
Watches made by IWC are characterised by a complex, high-precision mechanism and many models have useful functions such as reserve power, an eternal calendar, minute repeater and moon phase indicator. In addition IWC watches offer many special technical features.
IWC achieved its breakthrough with the design and launch of the Mark XI pilot's watch. The IWC prize-winning advertising campaigns with highly striking slogans also attract a great deal of attention. To the present day the company applies the maxim 'Innovation yes, mass production no'. The company's watches are classical and timeless – and when combined with robust quality the result is watches which will provide a lifetime of service.
